Italian company develops food packaging gas barrier film

A patented processing technology developed by the Italian company Tecno Coating Engineering - "three bubbling blown films", is being tested by several European meat packaging companies. It is a 5- or 7-layer polyolefin film made of EVOH or Nylon as a barrier layer. It is first blown down through a water cooling ring. The hose expands to a width of 120 mm; it is re-expanded in the second tower. Heating, annealing, air circulation cooling, coiling; after the third expansion, the film width reaches 600 mm. This new film is suitable for use as a barrier bag for fresh meat, cheese, and processed meat products. It will compete with polyvinylidene chloride film in the meat packaging material market.
