Consumer Association helps customers change glasses frames

In recent days, a concerning incident has sparked public concern. A customer, Mr. Xin, faced discomfort after switching to a new pair of glasses, only to find the optical shop refusing a return. After a long day of effort and mediation from the Consumer Association, the issue was finally resolved. On February 28th, Mr. Xin visited an optical shop in the city to replace his eyeglass frame. After selecting a new pair, the staff did not conduct any eye measurements. They simply took the original lenses, polished them, and placed them into the new frames. After paying 300 yuan for the frame, he left with his new glasses. However, on the way home, Mr. Xin began to feel some eye discomfort, followed by tingling and blurred vision. Initially, he thought it would pass, but upon returning home, his family noticed that his eyes were red and bloodshot. He immediately removed the glasses and did some research online, discovering that proper frame fitting requires accurate pupillary distance measurements. Realizing that the shop had skipped this step, he decided to return the glasses. On March 1st, Mr. Xin returned to the store to request a refund. However, the staff refused, stating that the frame itself had no quality issues. This left him frustrated and without a solution. The next day, the author accompanied Mr. Xin to a professional optical shop downtown. There, a certified optometrist measured Mr. Xin’s eyes and found that the new frames did not match his pupillary distance. “Each lens has an optical center,” the optician explained. “Your eyes have two pupils, and for comfortable vision, the distance between the optical centers must align with your pupil distance. If there's a significant deviation, it can cause eye strain and discomfort.” Mr. Xin’s new frame exceeded the national standard for deviation, which likely caused his symptoms. The optometrist also noted that when changing frames, the lens position can shift. Wearing improperly fitted glasses for too long may lead to eye fatigue and pain. Back at the original optical shop, the staff admitted they hadn’t taken any measurements during the frame change. However, they still refused a return, claiming no quality issues. They even said, “We don’t measure for other customers either.” Frustrated, Mr. Xin and the author then visited the Huancheng District Consumer Association. After discussing the case with the association’s staff, they reached out to the optical shop. Following negotiations, the shop agreed to refund Mr. Xin, deducting a small service fee, and returned 250 yuan. “I never expected changing a frame would be so complicated,” Mr. Xin said with a sigh. “If I had known all this, I wouldn’t have gone through the trouble.” For more details, please visit China Spectacle Rack Trading Network: [link].
