Are you ready for the 3D printing Cosplay era?

If someone sets up a Hall of Fame for a 3D printed Cosplay costume designer, Natasha Spokish must be on the list. In preparation for BlizzCon 2015 (a two-day grand event for Blizzard's hardcore fans), she spent more than 500 hours designing, modeling and 3D printing a set of Nova Terra, the characters in the game. The armor suit, the end result is very amazing. To show how much energy she put into every possible detail, Spokish also uploaded a series of progress photos and descriptions for her fans to worship.

As a manufacturer of props and clothing, an avid player with 22 years of gaming experience, and a year-and-a-half-year history of Cosplay enthusiasts, Spokish did not take any shortcuts when building this armor. She started with the game information from "The Hero of the Storm (a game of Blizzard, Nova is here)", but unfortunately, the models found were not detailed enough to meet the accuracy requirements she wanted. . So she started using Blender to add detail, converting all the three sides into four sides and filling in the texture - it was a tough process that took her two weeks to complete.

(above) The original data found in the game, (below) added a detailed model.

Fortunately, she still has some advantages in the next step. Not long ago, Spokish tried a human body 3D scan at the New York Comic Contest, and the 3D model of his own body was still preserved. She just used this body model to "try on" the size of each armor component.

When all the models were designed, she began printing them out using a LulzBot Taz 4 3D printer and PLA material. For many of these parts, she used her favorite blue PLA, which is beautiful under the illumination of the LED. Spokish smoothed each part with XTC 3D epoxy, then sanded and primed. "I love and hate XTC-3D because it's a good paint for prints, but it takes a long time to polish it," Spokish said. "That said, this definitely strengthens the 3D printing effect, so it is definitely good to use it."

In the final treatment, she used a water transfer technique to print the pattern onto the surface of the object. This gives the armor the same carbon fiber effect as the video game. As for the gun in her hand, in order to reduce the weight, she used spackle packing instead of XTC 3D (the gun is almost as high as her head), and used the spray gun to complete the surface details.

The final result is so realistic that it may make you forget that StarCraft is really just a game and doesn't exist in the universe of our real life. "When I saw myself wearing armor from the mirror, I couldn't help but shed tears. It was hard to describe. I worked hard for too long," Spokish said.
