From November 20th to December 24th this year, a pile of peculiar plush toys will appear on the shelves of IKEA Children's Home.
The designers who sold these toys for a limited time were special and they were 10 children from different countries. They are also the winners of the second Soft Toy Drawing Competition organized by IKEA last year.
As one of the rewards, the various toys they draw on the drawing paper will be turned into almost identical physical toys and sold to children around the world.
The toys are priced between US$1 and US$8. For each sold item, the IKEA Foundation will donate US$1 to support children’s right to play and develop.
Last year was the first year of the sale of plush toys. These toys were very popular. The IKEA Foundation donated more than 11 million U.S. dollars in total. Of course, the small designers whose works were lucky enough to express their satisfaction are also very satisfied with the plush toys that IKEA finally produced.
Ten of this year's works were selected from 52,000 entries. Ten small designers came from Finland, Indonesia, France, Egypt, Thailand, Spain, Hong Kong, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Canada. The youngest were only 5 years old and the oldest was 9 years old.
Chutirada from Thailand is the smallest winner. The plush toy he designed was a bit like a crab at first glance. But he explained that it was a bacterium that would eat sugar and starch sticking to our teeth.
The oldest Nauruzka Salsabila from Malaysia, her brain cavity is not small. She said that the animal with four green feet is a product of a cross between a dinosaur and a horse. She also gave it a name "horsasaurus".
The remaining few toys are also very interesting. Even if it is a puppy or a bird, the children's presentation is very different from that of adults. The criteria for judging this game is to be absolutely original and special enough, but also to facilitate production.
This year's game is being held. Children under the age of 12 can contribute. The deadline is October 30. Entries can be submitted either online or at the local IKEA store. However, the winners of this year's contest will be decided by the Internet, and the vote will begin on November 12.
