We recently participated in the Pizza Hut Restaurant's Best Spooky Halloween Pizza blogger challenge, which was quite an exciting experience. As soon as I heard about it, I decided to involve my kids in this fun activity. They were thrilled at the prospect of creating their own Halloween-themed pizzas, especially after seeing the cool pack of ingredients we received to help us.
Setting up the workspace was half the fun. I laid out everything the kids would need: pre-made pizza bases, sauces, grated cheese, and an array of toppings like olives, mushrooms, sweetcorn, pepperoni, and colorful bell peppers. To inspire them, I crafted a pumpkin-shaped pizza using a tomato and pesto base to mimic the vibrant orange hue of a pumpkin. I added details with olives, mushrooms, and carrots to bring it to life.
The girls dove right in, each eager to showcase their creativity. Though they initially seemed more interested in snacking on the toppings than making the pizzas, their enthusiasm quickly kicked in. Molly, who's seven, and the twins, who are four, were thrilled to be in charge of their own creations. Watching them work was delightful—they placed toppings in imaginative ways, turning simple circles of dough into monsters, cats, and even a friendly-looking ghost.
For my own entry, I decided to make a witch pizza. I started by spreading a layer of pesto and tomato sauce over the base to give her a greenish complexion. Then came the tricky part—creating facial features out of olives, mushrooms, and colorful peppers. It was a bit challenging, but the end result was worth it. The witch pizza looked eerily festive and tasted surprisingly good. The pesto added a unique flavor that complemented the savory toppings.
While the kids' pizzas lacked the finesse of mine, they more than made up for it in charm. Their versions included a spider pizza with olive-webbed designs and a jack-o'-lantern pizza that glowed with creativity. We baked them all in the oven, and within ten minutes, they emerged golden brown and ready to eat.
Of course, no pizza party is complete without a taste test. Dressed in their spooky costumes, the kids dug in eagerly. They unanimously agreed that the pizzas were a hit—fitting perfectly for a Halloween feast. Molly bravely tried the olive spider, but she admitted that the texture wasn't quite her thing. Still, she admired its spookiness.
Overall, participating in the Pizza Hut challenge was a blast. It brought us closer together as a family and got us into the Halloween spirit. Not only did we create some deliciously eerie pizzas, but we also shared a memorable experience that will stay with us long after the holiday ends.
