The camera on modern smartphones has become incredibly powerful, but there's still a lot of room for innovation when it comes to adding new features. Recently, a fascinating little gadget called Bevel made its way onto Kickstarter, aiming to turn your phone into a 3D scanner. This device is designed to be plugged into your phone’s headphone jack and uses a combination of your phone’s camera and its own laser technology (which is completely safe for the eyes) to create detailed 3D scans of objects.
Once you've scanned something, you can view the 3D model on your phone, convert it into a GIF, share it with friends, or post it directly on social media. But that's not all—Bevel also allows you to export the data and use it with a 3D printer to bring the digital model into the real world.
The Bevel app is available for both Android and iOS, and the device itself is charged via a USB port. It claims to last up to a full day on a single charge. While it does draw a small amount of power from your phone during use, it shouldn’t significantly drain your battery.
Currently in the crowdfunding phase, Bevel is priced at $49 (approximately 314 RMB) and is expected to ship in March next year. If you're someone who loves experimenting with new tech or wants to explore 3D scanning in an affordable and accessible way, this could be a really exciting project to support.
