KL-540B polyurethane resin gravure ink characteristics

New polyurethane resins are commonly used resin materials for new plastic gravure inks, and their application fields are constantly expanding.

Japan’s ink production ranks second in the world, and gravure inks account for 5% of total ink production. Packaging gravure ink accounts for 26%. Visible, gravure ink is still the leading product of packaging ink. Moreover, in Japan, gravure printing inks for plastic films have transitioned from a pure chlorinated PP system to a polyurethane system, and have mass production capabilities. The printing quality and the grade of the products have been greatly improved, and the production of toxic solvents has also been reduced. Environmental and printing environment pollution. The KL-540B, described below, is a new polyurethane resin applied to plastic gravure inks.

Key Performance Indicators of KL-540B

Viscosity: 400~700mPa·s(25°C)
Solid composition (nonvolatile): (30±1)%
Chromaticity (G/H): colorless or yellowish transparent (25°C)
Solvent: Butanone/Isopropanol/Toluene Film Strength: 16.3 mPa
Break breaking rate: 1000%
Solubility: soluble in ketones and benzene solvents, and can be added to solvents such as alcohols, aromatic hydrocarbons, etc.

New polyurethane resin features

Polyurethane resin KL-540B has a large molecular weight and low relative viscosity, but it has good viscosity, heat resistance, flexibility, good adhesion to various films, and less residual solvents. For Oriented Polypropylene (OPP), Polyester (PET), Nylon (NY) and other plastic films, KL-540B is an excellent polyester polyurethane resin solution for plastic composites and photogravure. Printing inks, used in cooking packaging, can exhibit good adhesion and boiling water resistance, and have excellent heat resistance.

KL-540B polyurethane resin gravure printing ink

1) Due to the large molecular weight and low relative viscosity, there are few problems such as fog, streaks, etc. that often appear in the high-speed printing process of the Cl-PP type ink, and the blade has excellent adaptability.

2) Butanone is the true solvent of polyurethane resin, which reduces the amount of solvent residues in the printed matter due to the reduction of the amount of toxic solvents such as toluene.

3) Polyurethane resin has good viscosity and can achieve ideal tone reproducibility at high-speed printing, making the printed pattern closer to the design original.

4) Excellent lamination strength and heat-sealing strength. If a curing agent is added, it has excellent chemical resistance and light resistance, and it can meet the requirements for boiling and distillation sterilization.

1 In order to enhance the adhesion of the ink to the PP film, it is necessary to add a resin having compatibility with the PP film, such as KL-541N, in the A formulation.

2 When printing high-temperature cooking (above 125°C) packaging materials, it is necessary to add 3% to 5% of the supporting H-15 curing agent and it is required to be used within 6 hours.

3 When the temperature exceeds 120°C, the curing agent must be added to the formula.
