Because PageMaker produces publications instead of ordinary documents, it is inevitable that the fonts in the documents have higher requirements. At this time, there is a problem: both use Chinese Let's use fonts. The Western languages ​​in some fonts are not very good-looking. A few fine art fonts don't even have Western languages. The use of Western fonts is even worse, and the Chinese parts have become garbled. How to do? Set them separately. If the document is long, it will not blame people. In fact, there is a special tool "composite font editor" in the Chinese version of PageMaker, which can help us solve this problem very conveniently.
The compound font editor is located in the "PageMaker plug-ins" under the "Utilities" menu. If there are none or grayed out unavailable, you need to re-run the installation program, select "Utilities-PageMaker plug-ins The compound font editor can be installed.
After running, the compound font editor window appears, as shown in Figure 1, the defined font is displayed in the list on the left, you can edit or delete it, click the "Add" button to create a new compound font, create a new compound The dialog box of the font is shown in Figure 2. The meanings of several main setting columns are:
Font set name: the name of the new composite font, such as typing "Zhang Jie's body font".
Basic font: Chinese font. Click the downward triangle button to select Chinese fonts from the system font set.
Roman font: Western font.
Size, Baseline: The size and position of the Western font are displayed as percentages. Sometimes when the same font size is used, the Western font is slightly smaller, you can set its size to be slightly larger, such as 120%, and vice versa. After the size changes, the baseline should be adjusted accordingly.
Detailed data setting: further set the common fonts, sub-common fonts and symbols of a font. The dialog box is shown in Figure 3. After selecting the font, you can choose from the drop-down items in the range bar Type the starting area directly in the character area. Note that the selection order of detail data is from top to bottom, that is, the first setting value is used first.
Example: Instant preview of the currently edited composite font. The "Adobe" in the front is a Western font, and the back is a Chinese font. Click the "Change Sample" button to define the sample content yourself.
It should be noted that the size and baseline settings cannot be reflected in the example. Here is a little trick to click the text tool button (T-word button) in the toolbox before editing the composite font to enter the text editing state Then select a mixed Chinese and Western text, and then run the compound font editor, after setting the font set, click the "Save" button in the compound font editor window, you can see that the font in the body has changed accordingly, if Dissatisfied with the results including size, baseline, etc., click the "Edit" button to proceed to modify the composite font.
The use of composite fonts is no different from other fonts in the system. From the "Text-Font", we can see that the composite font "Zhang Jie's body font" just edited is also in it. Just select it. But in earlier versions before 6.0, you need to restart PageMaker to see them in "Font".
