Japan Develops New Materials for Rapidly Increasing Wireless LAN

A new material that can increase the wireless LAN transmission speed by 40% was introduced in Japan in late November 2003. This material also has the advantage of being inexpensive and requiring no special construction.
If this new material is spread over part of the room's walls, the wireless LAN's transmission speed can be increased to 3.5 megabits per second, which is a 40% increase over the transmission speed of the ceiling and all of the walls.
This new material is actually an electromagnetic absorber that utilizes the dielectric loss mechanism. Its raw material is only air and a fiber-reinforced cement, so it is cheap.
Wireless LANs are widely used in many organizations. However, if there are leaks in the radio waves, it is easy to leak secrets. If there are other networks, the transmission speed will be low. The electromagnetic wave absorbers that are commonly used to solve these problems are rubber series products, but rubbers are flammable materials and fires can cause serious consequences. Absorbers made of other special materials are too expensive. The new materials are expected to change the radio environment in the workplace.
