The technology for the production of ethylene and propylene from catalytic pyrolysis jointly developed by the Petrochemical Research Institute of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, Sinopec Engineering Construction Company and China National Petroleum Corporation Daqing Refining & Chemicals Branch, and its industrial application on June 15 Japan passed the technical appraisal jointly organized by China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation and China National Petroleum Corporation.
Catalytic pyrolysis (CPP) is a continuous reaction-recycling operation mode in which a heavy oil is used as a raw material, a specially developed molecular sieve catalyst, and a catalyst is fluidized and transported, and ethylene is moderated in comparison with conventional steam cracking. The catalytic pyrolysis process has undergone systematic research and development. The industrial trials have been successfully carried out on an 80,000 t/a riser bed catalytic cracking unit rebuilt by Daqing Refinery Branch. Using Daqing wax oil mixed with 55% vacuum residue as raw material, the yields of ethylene, propylene and butene obtained were 20.37%, 18.32% and 7.52% respectively, indicating that the CPP process is mature and the technology reliable.
The special catalyst developed has good cracking activity, olefin selectivity, anti-metal contamination performance and excellent hydrothermal stability. Newly developed reactor outlets have achieved good results in high temperature oil and gas quenching, heat recovery and anti-coking systems. The cracking gas low-pressure, medium-cooled, staged oil absorption process method is used for the separation and recovery of CPP gas to meet the technical requirements, and the ethylene recovery rate reaches 99%.
The CPP process is a new way to develop petrochemicals with heavy raw materials, and this process has advanced international standards.
