American fast food chain Dairy Queen recently tested its myDQ mobile app, which allows consumers to place orders, pay and participate in loyalty programs in 60 stores in Colorado and Nebraska. After the completion of the pilot, it is expected to be implemented in 4,500 stores across the United States.
According to the solution provider Mozido, the payment is done through a stored value account stored in the app. The recharge of the stored value account can be carried out by debit card and credit card. Payments are cloud-based, and payments are debited directly through stored-value accounts, rather than through QR QR codes and NFC. On the POS side, an additional tablet will be available for the purchase.

The tablet interacts with the consumer's mobile phone, and the payment settlement of the stored value account is performed by means of the cloud. The cashier then closes the order transaction via a special mobile payment button on the POS.
What makes the Dairy Queen project interesting is that the POS system is integrated with the tablet. Dairy Queen introduced that since the APP function of the tablet is very different from the POS system, the function of the APP can be realized through the tablet.
Overall, the application seems to be too cumbersome. The cashier enters the order to the POS. The POS imports the billing information into the tablet. After the tablet cloud is settled, the payment result informs the POS, and the POS finally closes the transaction. Did Dairy Queen not think of NFC? In fact, in 2009, Dairy Queen has tested the NFC loyalty program, completed with NFC stickers, but the current solution does not support NFC.
