How can you enhance your sales skills? Foreign sales experiences bring unique joys.
Awesome word games are popular in online discussions about overseas sales. People often find themselves laughing at the creative ways of marketing.
A big brand of potato chips claimed that their product had 25% less fat than conventional ones, which surprised many buyers. However, when checking the nutrition label, there was no change in the fat content or calories. After tasting it again, I realized the "reduced fat" was due to fewer chips per bag!
For example, a vegetable oil advertisement states, "This product contains no cholesterol," making consumers think it's healthier. In reality, all vegetable oils naturally lack cholesterol.
These wordplay tactics are commonly used by marketing professionals in developed countries as long as they're not illegal and creative. Domestic marketers are also well-educated, but they haven't reached this level yet and are still somewhat "technical."
In cookie packaging, creativity is evident. Cracker-like products are labeled as "high-fiber," giving a misleading impression. High-fiber doesn't mean low-fat; in fact, high-fiber products often have more fat because they lack the grease needed for texture. They simply can’t be swallowed easily.
Words like "nutrition," "health," and "natural" make consumers feel more comfortable and interested in purchasing.
Even with clever packaging, consumers still need to know the truth.
Starting from January 1, 2015, China implemented a nutrition labeling regulation for prepackaged foods. This requires each product to clearly state the energy, protein, fat, carbohydrates, and sodium content, allowing consumers to understand the nutritional facts and limiting exaggerated claims.
Despite these efforts, if consumers don't pay attention to the labels, they might still end up buying the wrong product.
When shopping, it's important to pay attention to the packaging. Here are some tips:
First, check the QS logo, food production permit, and whether the product has clear date and shelf life information.
Second, ensure that the food packaging is odorless, especially those in direct contact with food, such as disposable lunch boxes and plastic wraps. If the packaging has a smell, it could indicate the presence of harmful volatile substances.
Third, use your hands to feel the packaging. Check if it fades when wiped or if it breaks easily. The safety of the packaging is just as important as the safety of the food itself, as it can affect the food and cause hidden health risks.
